Fluids and selected ingredients delivered through a vein
IV therapy delivers fluids directly into the bloodstream through a small catheter placed by a licensed clinician. The route changes how the body receives the fluid, but it does not remove the need for appropriate screening.
What happens in the body
IV fluids enter the circulation without passing through the digestive system. Depending on the plan, a solution may contain fluids, electrolytes, vitamins, or other protocol-approved ingredients.
Why screening matters
Health conditions, medications, allergies, symptoms, and hydration status can affect whether an IV is appropriate and which ingredients may be used. The clinician can modify or decline a requested treatment.
What IV therapy cannot do
It does not guarantee relief, cure an underlying disease, replace emergency treatment, or substitute for ongoing care from your healthcare professional.
